About Us

Shore House is a community based, non-residential psychosocial rehabilitation is a unique recovery program offering meaningful social, educational and employment opportunities to restore hope, independence and self-worth for people living with mental illness.

Having met the stringent criteria set by our governing body, Clubhouse International, Shore House, based in Long Branch, is the first and only accredited Clubhouse in New Jersey. The Clubhouse model is listed in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices as an effective modality of support. This model has been implemented in 34 countries around the world, with 330 Clubhouses serving over 100,000 members. We currently have 145 members at Shore House, growing steadily. Membership is free, voluntary and without time limits.

Participants in our programs are referred to as ‘members’ not patients or clients. Unlike a hospital, clinic or other institution working with mental illness, Shore House, in following the Clubhouse model, is run by club members in alliance with staff as equal partners. Together they run Shore House operations working side-by-side, with the purpose of enhancing the Shore House community, increasing personal fulfillment, and reducing isolation. All activities in the Clubhouse are meaningful and help members find purpose and develop friendships; those able and wanting to work are connected to, and supported in, paid job positions in local community businesses; and members are assisted in resuming and/or completing their education.
