Cantate Chamber Singers
Cantate Chamber Singers, directed by Gisèle Becker, is an auditioned chamber vocal ensemble based in Montgomery County, MD, that performs throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Cantate attracts the finest choral musicians from throughout the Washington,DC region. Cantate presents a four concert series of a capella and accompanied chamber choral works spanning five centuries, with a strong commitment to twentieth century music, and to commissioning and premiering new music.
Committed to the nurture of young composers and the creation of new choral music, Cantate sponsors a biennial Young Composers' Contest and has a Composer-in-Residence as part of its artistic staff. Cantate maintains an educational outreach partnership with the Thomas Pyle Middle School in Bethesda, MD.
Cantate is a member of the Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington and Chorus America. It has received funding from the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, the Maryland State Arts Council, the Dallas Morse Coors Foundation for the Performing Arts, the Winchcole Foundations, the Prince Charitable Trusts and the Washington Forrest Foundation.
