For 61 years, MOWSDC has supported seniors across San Diego County in their efforts to lead healthy lives and maintain their independence. MOWSDC provides home-delivered meals to older adults 60+, caregivers, and disabled veterans in San Diego County on weekdays and Saturdays (Sunday meals delivered with Saturday meals). Each meal delivery is accompanied by safety checks, social visits, care navigator support, and follow-up care. MOWSDC has a team of Care Navigators that respond to any concerns that volunteers observe during meal delivery. When volunteers discover a client’s condition or health change, a wellness alert is placed via the mobile device and is received and documented by the Care Navigators. The Care Navigators are trained to help connect these “at-risk” seniors with additional care and support and directly conduct a follow-up with each senior.
MOWSDC serves all of San Diego County, including the 3,049 square miles of rural and unincorporated areas. The MOWSDC Meal Center, located near downtown San Diego, prepares lunches and dinners for all four MOWSDC Service Centers in the North, East, South, and Metro area of San Diego. All meals are prepared according to USDA guidelines for senior nutrition and are reduced-sugar,-sodium, and –fat and include a Latin, Easy to Chew, renal friendly, and gluten friendly menu option. Volunteer drivers collect individualized meals at 19 different drop sites and cover 127-weekday routes and 64-weekend routes to senior residences across the county- ensuring between 1,400 and 2,000 meals are delivered daily.
