Grand Marais Art Colony
Inspiring creativity on the North Shore of Lake Superior. The Grand Marais Art Colony provides services to artists, promotes art education and nurtures art in our community by providing an environment for artistic excellence. Hands-on classes, events and lectures in visual arts, printmaking, pottery, glass and more for over 60 years!
Founded in 1947, the Grand Marais Art Colony is Minnesota's Oldest Art Colony. The Art Colony began as a summer refuge for artists seeking study in the wilderness as the The Outdoor School of Painting, a project of the Minneapolis School of Art (now MCAD). Over the the last 70 years, our organization has grown to encompass artists of every medium.
The Grand Marais Art Colony is located on the rugged north shore of Lake Superior in the quaint harbor and arts village of Grand Marais, a mere 90 miles north of Duluth. For generations artists and outdoor enthusiasts have been drawn to our area for inspiration and adventure.
