  • About Us

The Alliance Française is a 125-year-old, not-for-profit institution dedicated to French language and French-speaking cultures, a place providing opportunities for contact, growth, and collaboration for people of all ages, genders, ethnicities, orientations, status, and backgrounds. We promote exchange, understanding, and friendship between Americans and French-speaking people - from Europe, Canada, Africa, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. We connect our patrons to a world of 300 million francophones, helping Chicagoans develop a wider view of the world.

We forge partnerships with other cultural organizations, schools, universities, and government offices in Chicago and the Midwest to increase our relevance through collaboration.
