Moroccan Children's Trust
Moroccan Children's Trust (MCT) is a UK-registered charity aiming to achieve sustainable development for young people and their communities in Southern Morocco. Our vision is to create a safe and fulfilling environment in which vulnerable children, who would otherwise live or work on the streets, are able to thrive and grow. MCT coordinates a volunteer project in which we invite young international volunteers to spend time living in Taroudannt and supporting our social development work.
Our target group is street connected children and their families based in the southern town of Taroudannt. We coordinate projects run at a community centre (Centre Amane) that is managed by our Moroccan partner, the "Fondation Amane pour la Protection de l'Enfance" (FAPE). The centre serves as a safe and accessible place for vulnerable children and young people to escape the dangers of the streets. A dedicated social work team uses a holistic approach to also support the children's families to access services.
In this centre FAPE employ local people as teachers and social workers to coordinate activities, supported by MCT international volunteers, includina variety of school support classes ranging from the teaching of French, Arabic and English to help with Maths, Science and many other subjects; a programme of sports and recreational activities; and a weekly support group for the women in the families. Outside of the centre the social work team also provides health and legal services for the families of the children with whom we work.
