About Us

Founded in 1968 and coined as "A Gem in Germantown" by one of its members, Center in the Park (CIP) is a nationally accredited non-profit senior community center located in historic Vernon Park in the Germantown neighborhood of northwest Philadelphia. In its 45th year, CIP continues a history of empowering older adults to experience positive opportunities of aging through realization of its mission: to promote positive aging and foster community connections for older adults whose voices are critical instruments in shaping its activities and direction.

CIP offers over 100 classes and programs annually on a semester basis (Fall, Spring and Summer) including Lifelong Learning and Creative Self-Expression, Health Promotion and Evidence-Based Programs, and Community Connections-Civic Engagement and Intergenerational Programs, as well as ongoing Social Services, Energy Assistance, and Housing programs. CIP offers a proactive model providing older adults with activities, resources, services and peer support needed to maintain independence, ensure a healthy quality of life, and manage chronic conditions.
