About Us

The Rock Island County Senior Center (RICSC) is a part of Project NOW, a Community Action Agency. RICSC is a community focal point where older persons, as individuals or in groups, can come together for services and activities which enhance their dignity, support their independence, and encourage their involvement in and with the community. RICSC serves as a source of public information, community education, advocacy, and provides opportunities for community involvement of older people.

RICSC seeks cooperative arrangements with community agencies and organizations in order to serve the needs and interests of older residents of Rock Island County, and on a limited basis in Mercer County. All center services are rendered on a suggested donation basis, and no person is denied service for inability or unwillingness to donate.

Programs offered:

Congregate & Home Delivered Meals

The RICSC serves as one of 12 Congregate Meal Sites, with 10 sites operating in Rock Island County and 2 in Mercer County. Main meal sites operate 5 days a week and outlying sites operate 2-3 days a week. Each Congregate Meal Site serves a hot noon meal that is prepared with the expertise of an Illinois state licensed dietitian nutritionist.

The meal program also delivers 300-350 hot meals a day to qualified homebound older people or individuals who qualify based on a disability. Meals are delivered by our dedicated group of volunteers and transportation drivers.

Information and Assistance

An Information and Assistance Specialist is available to provide information to seniors about community services and resources. The specialist assists individuals by assessing their needs and addressing concerns that can be met by local agencies and organizations.

Outreach Services

Outreach workers reach out into the community to identify isolated older people, and if possible, to involve them as RICSC participants. Isolated and homebound individuals are the most in need of services and the least likely to seek them.

Transportation Services

Persons’ over the age of 60 and qualified disabled persons who do not have access to public transit are able to request transportation for medical and therapeutic appointments, social services appointments, grocery shopping, and Congregate Meals
