Neighbors Who Care

About Us

Neighbors Who Care is a not for profit, volunteer organization serving the unmet needs of seniors and chronically ill adults in the spirit of Saint Marguerite d’Youville.

Founded in 2003, we match community volunteers with low income, homebound elders and chronically ill adults in the greater Waltham area to provide companionship and transportation assistance, at no charge. We serve our clients by supporting life-giving activities, such as transportation to medical appointments, assistance with grocery shopping and errands, and home visits. Our volunteers embody compassion and respect as they care for the mind, body, and spirit of those we serve and build trusting and enduring friendships.

Neighbors Who Care is looking for friendly and compassionate people who would enjoy visiting their lonely neighbors. We pair each volunteer with an older adult who may be socially isolated and looking for a friendly visitor. As a volunteer, you will enjoy a variety of activities with your client, including assisting with grocery shopping, taking them to an appointment, conversation over a cup of coffee, playing board games, or enjoying ice cream while watching the boats sail by on the Charles.

Volunteers are asked to serve 3-5 hours per month with a minimum commitment of 6 months.
