Our urban rivers can be a source of civic pride that connects and transforms diverse communities as well as enhances the future vitality and identity of the region. The Rio Salado and Gila River are historically significant and underutilized natural assets, which are reimagined as a unifying public space engaging and supporting social interaction and the reconnection of our communities with our river. The Rio Reimagined is a visionary project that spans approximately 58-mile stretch of Rio Salado from Granite Reef Dam to State Route 85 including the Rio Salado and the Gila Rivers. As a partnership between the eight community stakeholders along the river corridor - Mesa, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, Tempe, Phoenix, Avondale, Gila River Indian Community, Avondale, Goodyear and Buckeye, who have joined together to explore ways to reconnect the splendor of the Rivers with their residents for social, economic, and environmental vitality and urban resilience.
