  • About Us

    The Honor Emergency Fund of the Fire Department of the City of New York was started in 1921. It was incorporated in 1953 and is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization. The Fund provides assistance to active and retired firefighters and officers, as well as their spouses or domestic partners and their dependent children or other dependent family members (dependency needs to be verifiable.) Also, spouses and dependent children of deceased firefighters and fire officers may apply. In addition, active members of the FDNY Emergency Medical Service (EMTs and Paramedics) and their dependents may apply, as can FDNY Inspectors and the civilian work force who are employed by the FDNY at the time of application. The Honor Emergency Fund also provides grants to the FDNY Counseling Service Unit.

    Successful applicants to the Fund can receive direct financial assistance as well as help with the costs of various needs, such as speech, occupational, physical, and psychotherapy; medical care and prescription medication; medically-necessary home health care; respite care; handicap home or vehicle modifications; payment of certain bills that are in arrears; replacement of important household or personal items; assistance with certain relocation costs; and emergency travel and accommodations due to specialized emergency care.
