Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County

The mission of Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County is to create and sustain simple, decent and affordable housing in partnership with the community for all God’s people in need.

At Habitat, we believe that every man, woman, and child deserves a safe and affordable place to call home.

We fulfill this belief through the generosity of donors and the dedication of volunteers.

At Habitat, we build! In Sangamon County, we build or renovate 4 houses each year and install 15 accessibility ramps for low income families in need.

Habitat serves only hard working, low-income families in need of safe and affordable housing. Each program participant must work 250 sweat equity hours before purchasing their home through a zero interest mortgage provided by Habitat. The mortgage payment including property taxes and insurance may not exceed 30% of the participants gross monthly income.

In the past 30 years, our Habitat has built 110 homes, over 35 accessibility ramps, over 20 minor home repairs and 7 critical home repairs.
