About Us

Launched in November 2007, VCS began by managing the VCS Program, which has become the leading global GHG standard and program in the voluntary carbon market. Increasingly, emerging GHG programs around the world look to VCS for best practices and guidance as they develop their own systems. Since its inception, more than 1,300 projects around the world have relied on the VCS Program to issue more than 170 million Verified Carbon Units (VCUs). In addition to the VCS Program, VCS manages the Climate Community & Biodiversity Standards (CCB), one of the most widely applied and respected tools to demonstrate positive community and biodiversity impacts of land-based activities. VCS is also a California-approved Offset Project Registry (OPR), helping to implement that state’s landmark cap and trade program.
