Tostan is a US 501(c)(3) nongovernmental organization dedicated to providing human rights-based education to Africans who have little or no access to formal schooling. The mission of Tostan is to build the capacity of individuals, families and communities in Africa to improve their lives and bring about positive, sustainable development through a non-formal education program in national languages.
Based in the West African country of Senegal, Tostan works in mostly rural regions to increase community engagement in projects related to health, human rights protection, literacy, the environment, child welfare, conflict resolution, and economic development. Tostan is currently implementing its innovative educational program in Djibouti, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, and Somalia.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED WITH TOSTAN
Over the years, Tostan has greatly benefited from the efforts of volunteers and interns. These motivated individuals have worked alongside employees to build Tostan's capacity to work more effectively in the communities we serve, whilst also working with donors and partners and reaching out to new form partnerships and contacts. Collaborating with Tostan is a great way to develop a strong, competitive curriculum vitae by gaining a fulfilling experience in the field of human rights and development.
