About Us

Public Allies North Carolina is a 10-month, paid AmeriCorps Apprenticeship and Leadership Development Program. We are committed to advancing social justice and equity by engaging our community members in service, while building the capacity of local organizations. Since 1992, Public Allies has helped thousands of underrepresented young leaders serve our country, get on successful pathways to higher education and careers, and bring communities together to work for the common good.

Allies spend four days per week at their host organization, where they gain work experience, make meaningful career connections, and achieve measurable service outcomes. Once a week, Allies gather as a cohort for all-day trainings focused on skill-building, nonprofit leadership, and understanding persistent social issues. Allies earn a living stipend of $15,000 over 10 months, 100% health insurance coverage, and can qualify for other benefits such as food and childcare assistance. Upon successful completion of the program, Allies receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $6,195 for future educational expenses or to repay qualified student loans.

Public Allies North Carolina is a program of the North Carolina Institute of Minority Economic Development and a proud member of the AmeriCorps National Service Network.
