New Hampshire Humanities (NHH) funds and supports programs that inspire curiosity, foster civil dialogue, and explore big questions. An independent, statewide nonprofit, last year NHH made possible 1,206 free public programs and digital broadcasts reaching 33,470 residents, in partnership with 414 organizations and in 181 communities, to engage all Granite State citizens, regardless of their age, background, or educational level. New Hampshire Humanities connects people and ideas by bringing the thrill of discovery and the power of ideas to people of all walks of life, in all corners of the Granite State.
Founded in 1974, New Hampshire Humanities is the National Endowment for the Humanities’ state affiliate and operates as an independent nonprofit with a mission to support public humanities at the local level. NHH has a 10-person staff and is governed by a dedicated board of directors comprised of business, civic and academic leaders. It has an annual operating budget of $1.6M, largely derived from sources including the National Endowment for the Humanities, foundations, corporations, and individual donors. In accordance with its mission, NHH provides public humanities programming and disseminates federal grant funds to eligible nonprofits and tax-exempt organizations to advance public humanities programs across New Hampshire.
