Nang Fah Project
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES OF NANG FAH PROJECT, INC. Nang Fah Project, Inc. ("Nang Fah Project") is a New York not-for-profit corporation which seeks to develop and maintain centers to provide education, rehabilitation and counseling for women (many of whom might be in their early teens) in Thailand who are at risk of, or who are already subject to poverty, discrimination and exploitation. Our goal is to empower this marginalized population of women and provide them with the care, skills, and funding to assist them in finding employment or starting and maintaining their own businesses. Nang Fah Project aims to give these women a strong foundation by providing them with comfortable housing, good nutrition, education, vocational training and skills to become a contributing part of society. Through its network of social workers, Nang Fah Project will identify women in need of such services throughout Thailand [and Burma] and will offer them an opportunity to attend a center where they are given free housing, counseling, and training in the skills of accessory and fabric design, sewing, embroidery work, computer design technology, patternmaking, and leather stitching. By utilizing a skill set that is already ingrained for most of these women, design training can be a quick and easy way for these women to be successful and earn a livelihood. After training, Nang Fah Project seeks to place these skilled workers in local textile and associated businesses or help the women start their own businesses by providing them with grants and/or microloans. We believe that Nang Fah Project could influence other young women in this region and allow them to start making positive choices for their future and the future of their communities and their culture. Nang Fah Project believes that if these women are given a chance for success for the first time in their lives, they could lead a more dignified and successful life.
