disparities in access to childhood cancer treatment and clinical trials.

 COMPASS TO CARE’S MISSION

The mission of Compass to Care is to provide a free Non Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) solution to access life-saving cancer treatment and clinical trials for children fighting cancer and facing poverty or cancer-related financial toxicity (CRFT).

By supporting families in financial distress and removing the transportation barrier to access cancer treatment, Compass to Care is focused on preventing missed medical appointments and improving outcome for children living in poverty or whose families are facing CRFT.

Why do children and families need you?

The best cancer treatment in the world cannot cure a child if he or she has no way to get there. For children whose families are facing poverty and/or cancer-related financial toxicity (CRFT), getting to treatment can be a real problem.

Transportation is a basic but necessary step for ongoing health care, especially for those with chronic diseases like cancer. According to the American Hospital Association (AHA), transportation challenges prevent a staggering 3.6 million Americans from receiving medical care each year. Children with cancer are among these patients and they need reliable access to Non Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT).

With research pointing to a risk of relapse when a child misses just one daily dose of chemotherapy in a two week course, Compass to Care can support a child’s cure by providing free NEMT to help children arrive on time, every time treatment is scheduled.
