  • Mission

Documentary Educational Resources’ mission is to amplify underrepresented voices and inspire understanding about people and cultures of the world through the creation, circulation, and preservation of documentary film and media. Our major programs are distribution of anthropological and cross-cultural documentary films to colleges, museums and other educational institutions, preservation of classic anthropological films and fiscal sponsorship for documentaries in production.

    About Us

Founded in 1968 by a group of filmmaking anthropologists for the purposes of producing films about people and cultures primarily for classroom use. The intention was then and is now, to increase awareness, understanding and tolerance of cultures different than your own. We currently support the work of young filmmakers by administering grants, providing fiscal sponsorship, and licensing a stock footage archive of historically significant material. Our primary source of revenue comes from the distribution of our programs to the educational market.
