Rhode Island Indian Council

About Us

The Rhode Island Indian Council, Inc. is a private, non-profit agency that promotes the social, economic, and cultural well-being of all tribal communities in southern New England. Established in Providence in 1975, the agency is governed and staffed primarily by Native Americans. Our constituents include over 10,000 Indians in Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Jersey each representing nearly sixty tribes. We are here to meet the needs of today’s American Indian families and to serve as a center for cultural, historical and social exchange. Ultimately, we are building a future for our people based on the Indian nations’ history, traditions and philosophies. This is the understanding we want to share with all people.
