    To understand and serve the health and wellness needs of the medically underserved who live or work on Johns, James and Wadmalaw Islands, Folly Beach, or who serve the hospitality industry of downtown Charleston.

    About Us

    Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic (BIFMC) is a 501 C (3) non profit organization. We provide free primary medical care to eligible, uninsured patients. We treat uninsured adults between the ages of 18-65 who are living at or below 299% of the Federal poverty level who live or work on Johns, Wadmalaw or James Island, Folly Beach, or who serve the downtown Charleston Hospitality Industry.

    Based on the Volunteers In Medicine model, BIFMC is an extraordinary example of what can be accomplished when a group of volunteers work together to serve the needs of the community. The Clinic is currenty staffed by 140 volunteer physicians, nurses, and administrative support, treating over 450 patients each month.
