The Salvation Army - Service Extension Department
The Salvation Army SERVICE EXTENSION DEPARTMENT of the Pendel Division (Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware) represents and helps fund many local and regional programs including the "Service Unit" Program. Compassionate work of our Service Unit Volunteers bring help and hope to hurting people throughout Central and Eastern Pennsylvania. The Salvation Army does not have a corps community center in every town and village throughout the Division, but we do have faithful volunteers hard at work in these communities. These volunteers come from all walks of life: schoolteachers, bankers, business owners, pastors, homemakers, and retired people - ordinatry people with caring hearts and a loyal commitment to The Salvation Army's mission. Organized as "Service Units" in 34 counties they provide emergency assistance with essential needs such as food, rent, fuel/utility payments and clothing. Service Unit volunteers also provide assistance with seasonal needs such as summer camp for children, back to school backpacks and school supplies, Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets and gifts for children and friendly visitation to those shut in or in nursing homes. Last year devoted Service Unit volunteers provided Salvation Army services to more than 44,000 people. They wear no uniforms they are a volunteer militia. They are the army behind The Salvation Army.
