The La Vallee Alliance works with the leaders of the community of La Vallee de Jacmel, Haiti, to improve the quality of and access to education for 8100 school-aged children in the area. La Vallee de Jacmel consists of a collection of 13 tiny village communities in the mountains outside of Port-au-Prince. The people there are very poor and many families cannot afford the $150 it costs to send a child to school. The Alliance sponsors students, supports teacher salaries and training, and provides books, materials and educational enrichment opportunities. Alliance volunteers, who travel to Haiti each summer, have helped to renovate two of the most desperate schools.
