UNION HEALTH CENTER, INC

About Us

The Union Health Center (UHC) is a primary care and multi-specialty ambulatory health center providing healthcare to the active and retired members of the UNITE union as well as their families. UNITE is the Union of Needletrades, Industrial, and Textile Employees and was formed by the merger of the ILGWU and the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers' Union. Originally founded by the ILGWU in 1914 to combat tuberculosis among garment workers, UHC has kept faith with its social mission while remaking itself as a state-of-the-art, fully equipped and accredited primary and specialty care facility. The Health Center is located at 275 Seventh Avenue in Manhattan and provides over 90,000 patient visits a year. In addition to its 54 exam rooms, the facility houses a radiology suite with flat film and mammography capability, a large physical therapy office and a pharmacy.

Since its inception, the Health Center has consistently tried to devise ways to meet the needs of the union's membership with innovative care. The best indicators of its ability to implement new patient-centered programming are the consistent improvements in patient outcomes through many years of quality improvement initiatives. In April 2010, the Health Center received NCQA recognition as a Level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home.
