About Us

International Bird Rescue is a wildlife rehabilitation organization that specializes in aquatic bird rehabilitation and oiled wildlife response. Our response efforts extend to meet the needs of oiled wildlife locally, regionally, and internationally. We operate two busy wildlife rehabilitation facilities in California; the Los Angeles Wildlife Center in San Pedro, CA, and the San Francisco Bay-Delta Wildlife Center in Fairfield, CA. These centers are owned by the state of California and are purpose-built for oil spill response. Out of these two facilities, we maintain a broad-scope aquatic bird rehabilitation program that incorporates oil spill response as one part of everyday practice along with our regular rehabilitation program. Each of our facilities is equipped with flight aviaries, several different types of indoor and outdoor water caging systems, large indoor facilities with caging for hundreds of birds, a laboratory, an intensive care unit, exam stations, a washroom, laundry facilities and kitchen adequate to support over 2,500 birds per center per year. The range of species admitted at both facilities varies widely over the course of the year. Both facilities are open 365 days a year. We offer internship and volunteer positions year-round and provide a rewarding learning experience in the field of aquatic bird rehabilitation.
