About Us

The House of Good Shepherd serves with love and compassion women and children affected by domestic violence by offering a safe place with opportunities for emotional, educational and spiritual growth, giving hope and continued support for a better future.

House of the Good Shepherd’s mission is founded on our belief in the dignity of each person. The goals of our program are (1) to promote healing and recovery for the mothers and children we serve, and (2) to enable the women to develop independence and self-sufficiency and remain free from domestic violence. Each objective of our comprehensive educational, counseling and supportive services addresses one or both of these goals. Our safe and structured environment encourages residents to face their challenges and achieve their goals.

House of the Good Shepherd’s violence recovery program is based on counseling, including individual, family and group therapy; education such as classes in domestic violence, substance abuse, positive parenting, and women’s wellness; our Learning Center, where women work on their education and job goals; training in budgeting and money management to secure financial stability and economic independence; bilingual services; and our Aftercare Program, with support groups and services that promote long-term recovery. In a peaceful environment that is predictable and safe, our extensive Children’s Program encourages healthy child development, nurtures children’s self-esteem, reduces the long-term effects of family violence, and prevents children from reliving the painful legacy of abuse in future generations.
