LITERACY VOLUNTEERS OF MARICOPA COUNTY INC

  • Mission

Empowering adults to achieve literacy and improve their quality of life.

    About Us

We serve approximately 1,000 students every year, providing more than 80,000 hours of instruction in our various programs. Our students range from age 16 to 80; 20% of our students are age 24 and younger, 63% are women, and 79% are underemployed or unemployed.

The majority of LVMC’s students receive instruction by attending one of LVMC’s two Learning Centers. Our centers offer comprehensive services including computer-based instruction, small classes and one-to-one tutoring. Additionally, LVMC offers a distance learning program directed at individuals who do not live near an adult education center or whose work schedules prevent them from attending a learning center.

LVMC’s staff includes eight instructors; a data specialist; a virtual services/data/technology coordinator; and a director. In addition, we have over 50 volunteers that provide invaluable help assisting students with the different software programs, and tutoring on specific subject matter.
