  • About Us

The Adult Learning Center is a volunteer based program which teaches basic English as well as introductory citizenship training through small and large group instruction and computerized programs. Our volunteer tutors, a heterogeneous group of educated men and women, reinforce the concept that Americans come from many different traditions and different language groups. * We provide classes in job applications and do practice interviews.

    • We help individuals develop resumes as a way of seeing alternative forms of employment.
    • For those who have a chance at citizenship, we teach them the necessary courses or direct them to places where these courses are held.
    • We have made lawyers available for discussion of the new legislation.
    • For those who have children, we provide bilingual baby-sitting and child playrooms while the parents attend classes.

Today the program enrolls over 200 students each year. At the heart of our success are over 70 dedicated volunteer teachers, who include many current teachers as well as retired public school teachers.
