St. James Catholic School

About Us

St. James is a K-8 Catholic grammar school nestled between the Mission District and Noe Valley, two vibrant San Francisco neighborhoods. For more than 100 years, St. James has remained dedicated to living its mission of educating the whole child, and proudly serves children of families representing diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.

St. James School challenges students to recognize their gifts and to be people of action. As leaders of our faith community, the faculty instills a strong sense of Catholic, Christian values in an atmosphere of inclusion and empathy. Students are empowered to be advocates in their learning, ask profound questions, and seek out meaningful answers. Today, 150 students and their families are a proud part of this community, but generations of San Franciscans before them have attended St. James; current students can point to their parents, uncles, aunts, cousins, and in a few cases, grandparents in the graduation photos in the school halls. True to St. James School history, the coming together of locals and newcomers deepens our spirit and sense of pride, our emphasis on generosity, understanding, and community.
