About Us

Innovation for Equity (IFE) is a powerful network founded in 2018 by a cross-disciplinary group of volunteer Black leaders from across the education ecosystem — including superintendents, higher education presidents, ed tech entrepreneurs, researchers, investors, policymakers, and nonprofit leaders — who sought to blend the moral vision of a civil rights organization with the innovation and urgency of Silicon Valley.

To do this, they saw the need to bring together a broad cross section of voices and perspectives to address the issues of Black learners from cradle through career. As innovators in their sectors, they sought to leverage effective, cutting-edge approaches to driving transformative outcomes. They also saw the importance of growing the bench of similarly oriented innovative Black leaders who could be positioned to drive decisions to scale the impact for Black learners at all stages of their educational lives. The network now stands as a nearly 2,000 leader-strong community of professionals focused on collaborating and innovating across the education ecosystem. The organization’s mission is to improve life outcomes for students needing the most support, focusing on Black learners from cradle to career.
