SySTEM REAL AmeriCorps Program

The SySTEM REAL AmeriCorps Service-Learning Program places AmeriCorps members at schools throughout the RSU-14 District as well as at REAL School to engage high-risk, disengaged, and/or alternative learners in grades 3-12. This program will increase academic engagement among at-risk learners through engaging the student body in active, hands-on, STEM-based service learning projects and adventure therapy programming. SySTEM REAL recognizes that all learners have important and individual strengths. Our approach leverages these personal strengths and interests as catalysts for positive change and growth across social, emotional, behavioral and academic goals. While programming to impact these goals is individualized, every individual is a precious and important part of our learning community. Students here are not merely receivers of services – they are active partners in the development and care of a school culture that supports all members. Restorative practices are modeled throughout our daily activities through our partnership with Maine Youth Court. Our Core Values of Safety, Respect, Responsibility, and Kindness are directly taught and practiced, and consistently recognized and rewarded.
