VIRGINIA CIVICS EDUCATION INCORPORATED

We are strong believers in civic education and we started VA Civics to support teachers who do this important work. ​Virginia Civics sponsors the We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution program and the Project Citizen program in Virginia. In supporting these curricula, VA Civics provides professional development opportunities for teachers, teaching resources, and classroom support, and runs the annual regional and state We the People competitions. We serve high schools and middle schools throughout the Commonwealth.

​ Effective civic learning makes students better thinkers. Students who debate and discuss in their civic-education classes learn to appreciate multiple perspectives and understand the rationales behind why people hold different opinions. These students also become better at negotiating, evaluating opinions, formulating conclusions, and reaching group consensus. We the People and Project Citizen provide students with unique opportunities to develop and practice these skills in a relevant and meaningful context.
