In 2007, Captain Barrington Irving became the youngest pilot and first African American to fly solo around the world in a single engine airplane, setting 10 world records. Recognized as a pioneer in his field, Captain Irving launched Experience Aviation to inspire children of all backgrounds to dream bigger about their capacity to lead and create within STEM fields. Experience Aviation and its partners leverage powerful hands-on adventures to encourage young people to discover their inner inspiration and gifts involving Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Experience Aviation (http://www.experienceaviation.org/) is a 501-C3 nonprofit organization leading a variety of programming including the innovative “Build and Soar” summer program where children from diverse backgrounds build airplanes, racecars and hovercrafts that Captain Irving races personally upon completion.
