Project Primate Inc. (PPI) aims to raise awareness about the rapid decline of primate populations and to promote, inspire, and support international conservation efforts. PPI is a major supporter of the Chimpanzee Conservation Center (CCC), based in the Upper Niger National Park in the Republic of Guinea, and Akatia, a chimpanzee conservation and rehabilitation project in the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire.
Activities of the CCC and Akatia include:
- RESCUE: Seized by local authorities, orphaned chimpanzees are welcomed to the CCC and Akatia where they are offered the best possible semi-captive living conditions.
- REHABILITATE AND RELEASE: For certain orphans that can be re-released into their natural habitat, they must undergo a long rehabilitation process of several years.
- AWARENESS: The CCC and Akatia educate local communities on the importance of biodiversity conservation and threats facing chimpanzee survival.
- PARTICIPATE: The CCC actively participates in local community development around the Upper Niger National Park where the sanctuary and release sites are located.
