About Us

The Coalition of Institutionalized Aged and Disabled (CIAD) is a non-profit, consumer-led advocacy organization of adult home and nursing home residents and resident councils. Founded in 1973, CIAD is dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights of residents, improving the quality of their life and care, and providing residents with the information and skills they need to advocate for themselves. CIAD works to directly empower and organize residents, trains and nurtures resident leaders, promotes resident participation in the affairs of their own residences, and engages in policy advocacy to impact the regulatory environment of adult homes and nursing homes.
