Literacy Chicago

About Us

Literacy Chicago is a nonprofit organization that empowers individuals to achieve greater self sufficiency through language and literacy instruction. Literacy Chicago provides free literacy programs and services to Chicago-area adults and their families.

We have an ongoing need for Adult Literacy and ESL Tutors. Tutors are required to complete a state-mandated training workshop that is held over two consecutive Saturdays each month at our downtown office. Once a tutor-student match is made we require a nine month commitment (once a week for 2 hrs.,flexible days, times & location).

Literacy Chicago is also currently recruiting volunteers for their Associate Board and External Relations Advisory Committee (ERAC). Associate Board members engage in outreach and community involvement while planning and carrying out the bulk of our fundraising events. To contact the Associate Board, email info@literacychicago.org. ERAC is a dynamic group of volunteer professionals who work in marketing, public relations, graphic design, and web design and have been a force for many positive changes within the organization. If you would like to contact ERAC email info@literacychicago.org .
