  • About Us

We founded the Art of Brooklyn Film Festival (AoBFF) in 2011 because Brooklyn needs a major independent film festival. While there are several niche festivals in our borough, they're based around individual neighborhoods and are limited in scope. Founded and run by Brooklyn-born and based working artists, the AoBFFcreates the first large-scale, borough-wide platform for independent film.

The AoBFF is the only independent, international film festival built entirely around Brooklyn, a local independent scene with global influence. We focus on Brooklyn‐born, Brooklyn-based and Brooklyn-centric films and filmmakers and we screen work from all over the world whose creators live, work in, or are inspired by Brooklyn's indie film scene.

We conceived the AoBFF as a festival that speaks to Brooklyn as a whole, where many demographics overlap. We bring the new, artist-centric Brooklyn community together with "Classic Brooklyn" – natives and immigrant communities at a single event.
