About Us
NYC Mesh is a volunteer-based charitable organization with the goal of creating an open, resilient, and net-neutral community-owned and managed network that is accessible and affordable to all New Yorkers. Started in 2014, we are by far the largest and most robust community internet network in the United States — connecting more than 1,000 buildings to serve countless New York City residents regardless of their ability to pay. Our network is self-healing, able to recover during severe weather events and emergencies, while also utilizing off-the-shelf hardware and open technologies.
Our recent successes include:
- Being selected to participate in the Broadband NYC initiative of the Mayor’s NYC Master Plan for Universal Broadband, connecting tall city-owned buildings to provide affordable high-speed internet access to underserved neighborhoods.
- Bringing fiber-to-the-home (FttH) to thousands of residents in affordable family housing in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
