About Us

Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation is an advocacy group that is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the largest open space in Cambridge, which houses the city’s drinking water supply in Fresh Pond.

Over the past year, the Friends of Fresh Pond have worked with the Cambridge Water Department to establish volunteer programs at the reservation. We have weekly weeding programs at the reservation with morning, afternoon, and evening sessions that we are always looking for more volunteers to participate in. These weeding sessions include invasive species identification and removal, so that plants native to the area can flourish.

On a larger scale, we organize group weeding activities on weekends. These activities would include an educational component, learning about native and invasive plants and their effects on the ecosystem. Weekday sessions are 2 hours long, and weekend sessions are about 3 hours.
