About Us

VSC's mission is to support artists and writers by providing studio residencies in an inclusive international community, honoring creative work as the communication of spirit through form.

About VSC: The Vermont Studio Center (VSC) was founded by artists 39 years ago with the purpose of fostering creativity through community, collaboration, and quiet reflection. Over time, VSC grew to become one of the largest international artists’ and writers’ residency programs in the United States, hosting 600+ residents per year with 17,000 alums worldwide. VSC residencies support visual artists across all media, and writers of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction.

Our Community:

  1. 430+ Resident artists and writers each year from across the country and around the world.
  2. 25+ Visiting Artists and Writers per year, each of whom spends 5 days at VSC, offering a presentation of their own work and optional studio visits or conferences with Residents.
  3. 20 full and part time staff, most of whom are artists and writers.
  4. Our neighbors in the village of Johnson and Johnson State College.
