  • About Us

The Poverty and Inequality Research Lab (PIRL) conducts collaborative, interdisciplinary, mixed-methods research to inform policy related to poverty, housing, education, and families. Bringing together Johns Hopkins University faculty and students, practice partners, local organizations, policymakers, and community members, PIRL develops research projects that advance evidence to increase social mobility and decrease inequality by race and income. In particular, our work prioritizes the often unheard voices of families, children and youth living in the “Other America” and considers their experiences to be expert knowledge that advances our research to improve policy and practice.
