Housing Long Beach

About Us

Housing Long Beach was formed in 2002 when a group of concerned residents came together to promote progressive affordable housing policy in the city of Long Beach. Developing into a powerful grassroots-organizing group, HLB brings together dozens of community-based groups (non-profits, congregations, etc.) and hundreds of low-income families to build leadership skills and participate in citywide affordable housing advocacy in Long Beach. Housing Long Beach addresses the issues of housing through work in three focused areas: 1) Working to enact long-term policies that will ensure new development of affordable housing; 2) Working to improve the health and safety of the existing housing stock through reforms to code enforcement; 3) Building a foundation through integrated voter engagement to allow residents to build the necessary power to make changes for their communities.

The mission of Housing Long Beach (HLB) is to improve, preserve and increase the supply of affordable housing for the wellbeing of Long Beach residents through community organizing, policy work and systems change.
