  • Mission

STAR provides support, education and advocacy to empower all individuals and families affected by sexual trauma, and engages and mobilizes the community to prevent sexual trauma.

    About Us

STAR, formerly the Rape Crisis Center, was established in 1975 to serve sexual assault survivors and their loved ones in the Greater Baton Rouge community.

For the first 36 years, STAR operated as a division of the East Baton Rouge District Attorney’s Office. In 2011 STAR incorporated into a 501(c)(3) non-profit with the Louisiana Secretary of State and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in order to expand services to surrounding parishes, increase education and outreach efforts, and ensure confidentiality with our clients as a separate non-governmental entity.

STAR now serves the entire Capital Region, including Ascension, East Feliciana, East Feliciana, East Baton Rouge, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana Parishes.
