Counting Coral

Counting Coral creates underwater sculptural installations that double as coral nurseries and local revenue streams. All donations go towards the art installations for local coral conservation. By donating our sculptural coral nurseries/artificial reefs to areas that have high diver traffic, we are protecting damaged reefs. Our sculptural parks are protected areas that will redistribute diver traffic, and provide local communities with the ability to protect their natural resources. By using art to direct attention to reefs, we are raising awareness about coral reef destruction and educating both locals and tourists.

Our sculptural installs decrease a percentage of diver traffic away from fragile reef systems. When installed, our sculptures can be planted out with coral as a first stage coral nursery. After being planted out with coral, our sculptures become an artificial reef. Once the coral on our sculptures has grown, fragments can be harvested and planted onto a secondary nursery or back onto the reef for restoration work on the existing reef. Dive operators, hoteliers, restaurants and the local communities have an added revenue stream and become stakeholders. In some cases, our sculptures can be used as a study site for scientist to have a controlled environment to study coral. Awareness will be driven by divers diving on our sites and by social media. Our sculptures are artistically designed and aesthetically appealing.
