Children's Alliance of New Hampshire

The Children's Alliance of New Hampshire is a research-based non-partisan watchdog group speaking out on behalf of children. As a multi-issue organization, we address state and federal policies on youth education, health, economic security and safety. For 24 years we have been on the front lines of children's issues in the Granite State. Research shows that childhood poverty is the single greatest threat to child well-being and success. The Children's Alliance agenda aims to reduce the number of New Hampshire children living in poverty. Unfortunately, that number has nearly doubled since 2000, with 1 in 10 Granite State children growing up poor. Accompanying the rise in childhood poverty is an increase in the number of children facing food insecurity. For the past year, the Alliance has turned its attention to this rising concern, launching our initiative NH Hunger Solutions: Ending Childhood Hunger in order to bring statewide coordination to efforts to combat childhood hunger. Through this initiative we have convened a diverse coalition of anti-hunger and child advocates, state agencies, community organizations, medical and health-related groups, food growers, suppliers and retailers, and business and community leaders in order to develop the NH Plan to End Childhood Hunger. The Plan will include strategies to implement and benchmarks to measure progress. In this way it will serve as a roadmap to ending childhood hunger in the state. Your work, alongside our staff, will help us to implement the initiatives outlined in the soon-to-be published NH Plan to End Childhood Hunger. The energy and interest in the plan and the larger work continues to grow. Recently, the Children's Alliance was named a No Kid Hungry Ally by our national partner Share Our Strength. Other opportunities for partnership and funding are in process.
