I Heart Oakland Alameda Estuary

  • Mission

Our mission is to make a difference to the Estuary’s ecological and wildlife health by removing, with the support of our volunteer community, up to 6,000 pounds of garbage annually from Jack London Aquatic Center, Estuary Park and the shores and beaches of the Oakland Estuary.

    About Us

I Heart Oakland Alameda Estuary is a fiscally sponsored project of the Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation founded by concerned citizen, Mary Spicer, who has united local citizens, community groups, companies, and city officials to clean up shoreline storm debris and raise awareness about protecting waterways and wildlife.

Every year, tons of trash and debris are washed up on the shoreline beaches after intense and ever-increasing storms that endanger wildlife habitat, water quality, and ecological health.

Clean-up events of 200 volunteers remove up to 6,000 pounds of debris every year. with the help of local citizens, community groups, companies, and city officials.

We invite the community on a Grand-Garbage-Go-Getting-Adventure, to connect with nature, protect and clean our waterways, and love our land while having FUN. We have cleanup teams working "On the Water" via kayak and stand-up paddle board and "On the Land" via foot. We provide volunteer hours for high school students.
