Founded in 1974, Chicago Opera Theaters (COT) mission is to provide first class productions of operatic repertoire that include the greatest works of the 17th, 18th, 20th centuries and beyond; to produce intimate and innovative performances that are accessible to everyone; to discover and develop the most talented young artists in the United States; and to remain an integral part of Chicagos cultural landscape. COT fulfills its mission through careful planning of repertoire and affordable ticket prices, complemented by in-depth arts education and community outreach programs. COT is dedicated to producing opera in Chicago at the highest international standards. In its 37-year history, the company has staged 113 operas, including 44 Chicago premieres. Currently, COT stages four performances of its three productions each season.
