The Young African Professionals Network (YAP DC) is a 501(c)3 organization founded by three African-born DC professionals. Since its inception in 2002, YAP DC has grown into a respected network of more than 10,000 young African professionals in the DC Metro area. The organization’s core competencies include:
Community Building: YAP DC actively leverages its programming to build bridges between the African immigrant population, organizations catering to young African professionals and the DC business community.
Resource Dissemination: YAP DC uses its mailing listserv, website, social media, and online resources to keep members informed about jobs, events, professional development tools and other career-related opportunities. In addition, YAP DC uses its platform to inspire and motivate members by profiling stories of African professionals who are positively changing the African narrative.
Professional Development: YAP DC offers members access to targeted events and programming that promote informal avenues for professional growth and career development. Events differ year-to-year and have included panel discussions on how African-affiliated professionals can amplify their voices at work to workshops on how to effectively structure an elevator pitch.
Networking: YAP DC is best known for its regular networking and speaker events where members are given the opportunity to engage with contemporary leaders in business, technology, philanthropy and social entrepreneurship.
