  • About Us

The Maine Justice Foundation is a private 501(c)(3) corporation that supports civil legal aid for poor and vulnerable Mainers. The Maine Justice Foundation has a 35-year track record as an effective, trusted steward of funds for access to justice. Incorporated in 1983 as the Maine Bar Foundation to fulfill the charitable goals of Maine’s Bar, our mission remains the same: to “ensure the adequate provision of justice for all Mainers.” Today we manage over $5 million in assets and are one of the 20 biggest grantmaking foundations in Maine. Each year we grant about $1.5 million to six Maine nonprofits who provide civil legal aid to Mainers who cannot afford a lawyer. These nonprofits serve over 30,000 Maine families every year.
