Collier County Neighborhood Stories Project

About the Project

The Collier County Neighborhood Stories Project is a grassroots effort to engage and empower immigrant community members to enter in dialogue about the police abuses they have experienced and witnessed in their daily lives.

The Project holds 4 key goals:

• Connecting Stories - community members speak out and connect to each other through shared storytelling and they affirm the premise of “I’m not alone. We are together.” Through this, we will create a story collection warehouse.
• Empowering Voices- Community members, through story telling, empower themselves and their peers to move forward in creating tangible change to law enforcement practices that result in abuses.
• Organizing Strategic Actions- Community members are now ready to organize together. They feel that they can stop these abuses and begin mobilizing their peers to workshops and trainings to educate them about their rights as well as how to document abuses when they happen
• Exposing for Change- The community takes steps to address accountability and change surrounding these abuses. It is during this stage that the project will have collected hundreds of stories and compiled video clips, images and testimonies to expose the truth.
